The history of the University

The creation of “Silk Road” International University of Tourism

Productive use of available resources and opportunities of the rich natural, cultural and historical heritage of Uzbekistan, adaptation of innovative ideas and technologies, active attraction of investments, serves to create an economically convenient, as well as organizational and legal conditions for the tourism development.
Along with this, taking into account the gradual transformation of tourism into a strategic sector of the country's economy, and there is an objective need to train highly qualified competitive personnel in the global tourism industry market, capable of ensuring the formation of a positive image of the republic as an attractive center for the direction of tourism on the Great Silk Road, development of the service sector, for potential attraction of tourism.
Based on the above, according to the initiative of our President Sh. Mirziyoyev, was founded the “Silk Road” International University of Tourism.
The organization of trained personnel system in the sphere of international tourism, as well as the practical implementation of republican initiatives to carry out research and creative work, in order to develop historical, cultural and humanitarian connection among the member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. The following are identified as the leading activities of the university:
  • providing high-quality training of qualified professionals in the field of tourism, using the latest achievements of modern innovative and scientific-pedagogical technologies, science and technology, in accordance with international education standards;
  • adaptation of the experience of leading foreign educational institutions in the system of  education of the tourism sector, the implementation of basic and scientific research with the involvement of young people and specialists, the creation of educational literature on relevant specialties and areas of education;
  •  development and adaptation of innovative forms of education, as well as new educational programs aimed at modernizing and improving the system of personnel training in the field of tourism;
  • increasing of the scientific and pedagogical potential of the university, actively improving teaching methods and pedagogical technologies by regularly sending advanced graduate students to graduate and doctoral studies at foreign higher educational institutions and research centers;
  • Creating conditions for the close integration of education and science with manufacture;
Organization of retraining and advanced training of specialists of subjects in the field of tourism;
The implementation of tourism activities and transportation of passengers in the field of tourism;
Organization of international scientific conferences, seminars and symposia to discuss topical issues in the field of tourism, development through the involvement of experts and specialists in the process of research and training, as well as cooperation with leading national and foreign educational institutions and research centers;
Curricula and qualification requirements in areas of education, developed and appropriately approved by UNWTO experts, such as Edite Sivas, Hose Louis Gutierres, Mersedes Karrenio, the Chief of the State Committee for Tourism development Anvar Allabergenov  and director of Republic educational and consulting center of tourism Elena Golysheva ,the professor B. Turaev, Doctor of Economic Sciences – M. Alimova and by Ph.D  Z.Ulmasova.
The university has established the Faculty of Tourism Management, Amirov Akmal Mekhrozhevich has been working in the position of dean.
Hozhiev Murod Bozorovich works as a deputy dean of the faculty.
 3 departments have been formed in the faculty. The Department of Social and Natural Sciences is headed by Ph.D., Acting Professor Negmatova Shakhzoda Shukhratovna, the Department of Foreign Languages is managed by Senior Lecturer Turdieva Nargiza Madonovna, the Department of General Professional and Special Disciplines is headed by Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor Turdibekov Hasan Ibrahimovich.
 To carry out the process of teaching students, 33 professors and teachers were involved in the educational process of the university, 9 of whom are doctors of science (DS), professors, 7 candidates of sciences, associate professor, 1 doctor of philosophy (PhD). In addition, on the basis of the proposal of the State Tourism Development Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, in October of the academic year, Dr. Giovanni Pietro Cavalli, the general manager of the hotel “Ohtels Hotels & Resorts”, a professor from the universities of Rovira and Virhili in Spain, and also from November on the basis of the memorandum collaboration of the prisoner with the institute of tourism “Sakhid”, professor of the above institute, doctor Yohanes Solista. In addition, Tony Qi, professors of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, a specialist of the International Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Christopher Lambert, conducted a master class at the university.
University lecturers, Oleg Alexandrovich Bunakov, associate professor of the Kazan Federal University of the Russian Federation, lectured on the topic “Tools and opportunities for globalization”, Vice-President of the holding company “SAHID GROUP” (India) Mr. Dr. Nugroho B. Sukamdani on the topic “Trends in the development of world tourism”, Chairman of the Council of Rectors of Private Universities, Rector of the University UNIVERSITAS GUNADARMA, Professor Dr. E.S.Margianti, on the topic “World Globalization in Tourism”.
On the execution of tasks defined in the resolution PD-4037 “On measures for the further expansion and strengthening of bilateral cooperation between the Republic of France and the Republic of Uzbekistan” of November 28, 2018, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sh.M. Mirziyoyev, at the initiative of the French Embassy, a specialist from France Alexander Sastrom held a master class on the topic “The Place of Tourism in the French Economy”.
Based on the agreements signed within the framework of the Uzbekistan-Russia Educational Forum held in Tashkent, lectures and seminars are held on the subject “International Event Management” by the faculty of the North Caucasus Federal University of the Russian Federation online.
University studies are conducted in Uzbek, Russian and English, taking into account the requirements of the state standard of education of the Republic of Uzbekistan in undergraduate education, the university teaches two foreign languages: the first is English (French, German), the second is one of the official languages ​​of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Russian, Chinese);
To date, 137 students, 99 boys and 44 girls are enrolled in 9 areas of the university.
In terms of regions, students come from: 105 from Samarkand region, 7 from Jizzakh region, 6 from Bukhara region, 5 from Navoi region, 4 from Kashkadarya region, 3 from Tashkent, 3 from Khorezm region, 2 from Tashkent region, 1 from Andijan region, 1 from Sirdaryo region.
On the execution of tasks defined in the resolution PP-4037 “On measures for the further expansion and strengthening of bilateral cooperation between the Republic of France and the Republic of Uzbekistan” of November 28, 2018, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sh.M. Mirziyoyev, in collaboration with the Sorbonne University of the Paris Academy of the Pantheon of France, establishes links of mutual cooperation in the implementation of research projects. The university has begun practical work on the opening of the "Cultural Tourism" department of UNESCO.
In the future, training is planned on the basis of joint educational programs with the Sakhid Polytechnic School and the Sakhid Tourism Institute in Indonesia, the Sochi State University of the Russian Federation.
Based on the need for qualified, competitive personnel in the field of tourism in the republic, the university provides for education in the following areas from 2019–2020 academic year:
Undergraduate:
- Pilgrim tourism;
- Ecotourism;
- Digital tourism;
- Guide-guide and translation activities;
- Tourism management;
- international relations in the field of tourism;
- International legal relations in the field of tourism;
- Business and legal relations in the field of tourism;
In the magistracy:
- Tourism (by type of activity: pilgrim tourism, ecotourism, digital tourism, guide-guide);
- Organization and management of the hotel industry;
- Tourism management;
- Tourism Marketing
It envisages admission of 400 students in the 2019-2020 academic year, 500 students in the 2020-2021 academic year in areas of education in the undergraduate degree. Agreements on the passage of the summer qualifying practices in Indonesia at the Sakhid Polytechnic School and the Sakhid Tourism Institute were concluded in 50 students in the 2018–2019 academic year, 100 students in the 2019–2020 academic year, 150 students in the 2020–2021 academic year. In addition, it is planned to organize the qualification practice of university students together with the Academy of Tourism in the city of Antalya of the Republic of Turkey and Sochi State University of the Russian Federation.
It is planned to accept 80 students in the 2019-2020 academic year, 100 students in the 2020-2021 academic year in areas of education in the magistracy. Of which, it is planned to organize together with the Academy of Tourism in the city of Antalya of the Republic of Turkey and Sochi State University of the Russian Federation, as well as with the Sahid Polytechnic School and the Sahid Tourism Institute in Indonesia, training and qualification practices of 20 masters in the 2019-2020 academic year , 40 masters in the 2020-2021 school year.
In order to prepare scientific and pedagogical staff, 10 young teachers were enrolled in the doctoral program in the 2018-2019 academic year, 20 in the 2019-2020 academic year, 35 in the 2020-2021 academic year, 10 young, talented teachers were appointed this year as independent researchers .
5 doctoral students - researchers in the current academic year, 10 in the 2019-2020 academic year, 15 in the 2020-2021 academic year plan to receive education in the doctoral studies of research centers and higher educational institutions of foreign countries, through competitions of the “El-Yurt Umidi” Foundation and others funds.
In addition, to study the advanced experience of foreign countries in the field of tourism and its application in our country, in the current academic year it is planned to undergo internships and advanced training in foreign higher educational institutions through competitions of the “El-Yurt Umidi” foundation 10 employees in the current academic year, 45 in the 2019-2020 academic year, 55 in the 2020-2021 academic year from among the faculty and staff.
  • In addition, in order to develop and implement projects for the organization of a full cycle of support for start-ups in the field of tourism, the development of innovative ways of studying, researching and solving topical issues of tourism development, the university has organized a center for “Innovations in the field of tourism”.
  • In order to assist the development of digital tourism, as well as the development of modern software in this direction, the university has established a center for “Information technologies in the field of tourism”.

The University and the resorts and hotels "Sahid" and the Institute of Tourism "Sahid" signed a memorandum of cooperation. In addition, signed a memorandum on the issuance of double diplomas (Double degree) with the Institute of Tourism Sahid. At the moment, in cooperation with foreign higher educational institutions and scientific-practical centers, educational programs and plans are being developed in the areas of education: Marketing in Tourism, Hotel Management, Event Management, Food and Beverage Management "," Management of tours and tourism. " In addition, a scientific project on the theme “Sacred Sights of Uzbekistan” is being created.
As part of the Uzbekistan-Russia Educational Forum, October 18-19, 2018, Uzbekistan signed a memorandum of cooperation with Sochi State University. In accordance with the clauses of the Memorandum, 4 professors and teachers of the International University of Tourism “Silk Road” have been accepted as members of the Educational and Methodological Council in the direction “Tourism and Service”.
At the moment, the issue of opening branches of the Antalya Academy of Tourism of the Republic of Turkey and the Sochi State University at the Silk Road International Tourism University is being discussed.
Specialist of the Center for “Information Technologies in the Sphere of Tourism” of the University Abdurashid Donyerov, is currently being trained in the specialty “Information Technologies and Programming” at the University of Sejong, Republic of South Korea.
The university administration is negotiating with international organizations on the membership of the Silk Road International University of Tourism, the network of universities UNWTO Ted Qual.
The faculty of the university, taking part in the competition for the grant “Creative  Spark: Higher Education Enterprise Programme” of the British Council, became the winner of the competition according to the results of the competition. Currently, the entire faculty of the university is participating in the “Creative Spark: Higher Education Enterprise Programme”  program. The program “Creative Spark: Higher Education Enterprise Programme” is attended by leading higher education institutions of Georgia, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom. The main goal of “Creative Spark: Higher Education Enterprise Programme” is to study regional labor markets, identify the peculiar features of small business and private entrepreneurship, develop new educational programs and develop entrepreneurial and creative qualities among students.
