Student Journalism Competition
 
  1. Desrciption
The “Silk Road” International University of Tourism will join the global celebrations of World Tourism Day (http://wtd.unwto.org/content/world-tourism-day-2019) #WTD2019 by organizing a Student Journalism Competition. The World Tourism Day in 2019 is dedicated to the theme: “Tourism and Jobs: a better future for all”. This competition goal is show that education is a main tool to achieve job sustainability in tourism and fulfill the dream of a brilliant future for the young generations in Uzbekistan.

  2. Rules of participation and submission
  3. Eligibility:
    1. Participants: All students at all level of education in the “Silk Road” International University of Tourism have the right to participate in the competition individually, in groups up to 5 persons, or as a class, accordingly to the class structure. Lecturers and staff members do not have the right to participate in the competition.
    2. Original works: All works in all categories should be original works, not submitted elsewhere and created by the participant(s) without the aid and/or intervention of any person or company/organization/institution.
    3. Number of works submitted: Each student/group/class has the right to submit up to 3 works in each category.
  4. Categories: The competition is divided into the following categories:
    1. Photography
    2. Short documentary (from 5 to 10 minutes)
    3. Written Reportage or Interview (up to 20 000 characters with spaces and up to 5 photos)
    4. Video Reportage or Interview. (up to 3 minutes)
    5. Web Content Advertising piece (up to 3000 characters with spaces and up to 5 photos and/or videos. Videos limited up to 3 minutes).
    6. Blog entry. (up to 3000 characters with spaces and up to 5 photos and/or videos. Videos limited up to 3 minutes).
  5. Submission process:
    1. Each participant should publish the competition materials at the social network or social sharing platform, accordingly to the media, of his/her choice.
    2.  Each participant/group/class should submit electronically all entries with link to the published material. No hard copies of film will be accepted.
    3. Each participant should number each materteral and send all materials in a separate zipped folder with link to the publication online.
    4. Each participant should submit separately data about the name, address, email address and send email with which numbers of materials she/he participate.
  6. Submission technical requirements:
    1. Photography: minimum 300 dpi resolution at minimum physical dimensions 10 x 15 cm. Files submissions in .jpg, jpeg, TIFF formats accepted.
    2. Short documentary (from 5 to 10 minutes). 4K resolution. In English or with English Subtitles.
    3. Written Reportage or Interview (up to 20 000 characters with spaces and up to 5 photos). Submission in MS Word, typeface Times New Roman, 1.5 spacing. In English only.
    4. Video Reportage or Interview. (up to 3 minutes). In English or with English subtitles. 4K resolution.
    5. Web Content Advertising piece (up to 3000 characters with spaces and up to 5 photos and/or videos. Videos limited up to 3 minutes).  In English only. Photos and/or videos in HD web resolution.
    6.  Blog Entry (up to 3000 characters with spaces and up to 5 photos and/or videos. Videos limited up to 3 minutes).

  7. Jurying rules:
    1. Each entry will be juried through a combination of points given as social impact (likes, views, etc.) and points given by a professional jury.
    2. The professional jury will consist of: 2 members of the University staff/faculty and 3 external experts.
  8. Use and Ownership of the Materials.
Copyright and all other rights remain that of the authors/participants. Any material used by “Silk Road” International University of Tourism shall carry the author’s credit line. Use may include publication in any “Silk Road” International University of Tourism advertising publication. All entrants understand that any image submitted to the competition may be used by “Silk Road” International University of Tourism for marketing and promotional purposes including in any media such as exhibitions, print and digital media directly related to the “Silk Road” International University of Tourism competition. By winning or placing in the competition the author is agreeing to be included in the winners’ annual. The “Silk Road” International University of Tourism, nor its associates, affiliates, or partners assumes any responsibility for materials submitted in violation of competition rules, or for those which violate copyright regulations. “Silk Road” International University of Tourism will investigate claims of copyright infringement to the best of its ability and will remove and disqualify images that are clearly demonstrated to violate copyright and/or competition policies.  “Silk Road” International University of Tourism will act to maintain the integrity of the competition and its affiliated entities but is not responsible for any damages resulting from images submitted in violation with rules and regulations.

  1. Prizes and Awards:
    1. Grand Prix of Student Travel Journalism: Travel and participation in the next FIJET Award Ceremony.
    2. First prize in each category: Travel to one of the affiliates to the Silk Road” International University of Tourism educational institutions abroad.
    3. Second prize in each category: Travel to one of the affiliate partners of the Silk Road” International University of Tourism in Uzbekistan.
    4. Third prize in each category: Set of books on travel writing and journalism.
