An article by T.I. Sultanov, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of “Languages and Global Studies” at the International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage “Silk Road,” and Acting Associate Professor U.B. Otayarova has been published by a prestigious publishing house in Türkiye.
The Navruz holiday has been declared a common day of remembrance and celebration of the Turkic World by the Organization of Turkic States. On this occasion, as a result of the efforts of scholars of the Turkic World, a major book titled “Common Heritage of the Turkic World: NEVRUZ” was published by the reputable “Kadim” publishing house with the support of Türkiye’s YTB (Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities).
This work, shaped by the contributions of academics from different countries and research fields, explores the historical, cultural, and folkloric aspects of Navruz through an interdisciplinary approach. The 33 articles included in the book are scholarly studies that reveal the rich traditions and shared cultural codes of Navruz among Turkic peoples.
In this context, the book maps how the Navruz tradition has been preserved across a wide geographical area, primarily in Türkiye, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Macedonia, the Russian Federation, and regions inhabited by Uyghur Turks.
The articles thoroughly analyze many aspects of Navruz, including its historical roots, mythological foundations, ritual practices, traditional beliefs, forms of celebration, games, music, and culinary culture. These findings clearly demonstrate that Navruz is not merely a simple holiday, but a complex cultural system with deep roots and multiple layers.
The book also includes an article by university lecturers Associate Professor T.I. Sultanov and Acting Associate Professor U.B. Otayarova entitled “The Modern Interpretation of Navruz in the Turkic World: Harmony Between National Identity and Cultural Heritage.”
