In order to ensure the implementation of the Resolution No. PQ-19 of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated January 12, 2024, “On additional measures to increase the flow of tourists and further enhance the prestige of our country through the wide promotion of the history and culture of Uzbekistan, the Uzbek language and literature in foreign countries”, on March 23 of the current year, at University of Siena, located in the city of Siena and ranked 607th in the 2026 QS World University Rankings, a Department of “Uzbek Studies” of the “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage was established.
The Head of the “History and Cultural Heritage” Department of the “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage, PhD, Associate Professor Odiljon Boynazarov, along with professors Kamol Mustayev and Mastura Sidikova, visited the University of Siena in Italy. During the visit, a meeting was held with the Rector Tomaso Montanari and other officials. At the meeting, issues of supporting the activities of the “Uzbek Studies” department being opened based on the agreement between the two universities were discussed, and a contract was signed.
The parties expressed hope that the department would play an important role in widely promoting the history and culture of Uzbekistan, as well as the Uzbek language and literature in Italy. More than 200 books and albums related to the history and culture of Uzbekistan, the Uzbek language and literature, tourism and cultural heritage, samples of Uzbek applied arts, as well as portraits of great figures who contributed to the development of Uzbek culture, literature, and education were donated to the “Uzbek Studies” department by the “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage.
In addition, professors and teachers of the “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage are organizing 4-day seminar-trainings at the University of Siena dedicated to the historical, cultural, and economic relations between Uzbekistan and Italy.
