ABOUT ACTIVITIES OF THE UNESCO CHAIR “SUSTAINABLE HERITAGE TOURISM ALONG THE SILK ROADS”

This project aims to develop sustainable heritage tourism by focusing on tourism utilization along Silk Road, and highlights the importance of heritage values, while introducing Silk Road to the global vision of heritage conservation.

         The targets of this project are as follows:

1.To establish a think tank and clearing house, placing cultural heritage conservation at the center of responsible cultural tourism planning and management, so as to achieve sustainable heritage tourism at Silk Road;

2.To establish a public platform for education and training, as well as an online learning community to make learning materials more accessible for young learners, strengthening academic cooperation and exchanges, and developing the quality of education and talent at Silk Road;

3.To establish observatories for cultural heritage tourism, and offering advice to world heritage sites and tourism villages, developing the digitization and use of cultural heritage and enhancing well managed cultural heritage tourism, maintaining its heritage, social cohesion and cultural practices, promote poverty alleviation;

4.To provide professional guidance on inheritance and utilization of cultural heritage resources for women, achieving women’s economic empowerment and increasing local employment opportunities for women and to accelerate gender equality;

         The project will build a comprehensive theoretical research system of “Silk Road”. The project will accelerate the digitization of cultural heritage, promote the sustainable tourism development of “Silk Road” heritage, and help to improve education, economic development and gender equality. The project will conclude with a positive role for the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals.

Strategic Objective 1: Ensure quality equitable and inclusive education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all, in order, inter alia, to reduce inequalities and promote learning and creative societies, particularly in the digital era.

Strategic Objective 2: Work towards sustainable societies and protecting the environment through the promotion of science, technology, innovation and the natural heritage.

Strategic Objective 3: Build inclusive, just and peaceful societies by promoting freedom of expression, cultural diversity, education for global citizenship, and protecting the heritage.

         Priority is given to the creation of the analytical center for sustainable heritage tourism “Silk Road”, the creation of a theoretical system for the development of tourism on Silk Road and the production of professional knowledge that will play a leading role in the development of sustainable heritage tourism along Silk Roads in the future.
