On September 14, 2024, China's National Philosophy and Social Sciences Planning Office announced that Professor Zou Tongqian, Vice Rector of Silk Road International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage, has been approved for a key project funded by the National Social Science Fund of China. To date, Professor Zou has received a main project, a key project, and a general project from the China Social Science Fund, as well as a general project from the China Natural Science Fund. The National Social Science Fund and the National Natural Science Fund are the highest scientific funding bodies in China for social sciences and natural sciences, respectively.

The newly approved project is titled “Research on the Operational Mechanism and Governance of the Tourism Internet Celebrity Economy in the Era of Omni-media.” This project aims to explore the unique dynamics of the tourism internet celebrity economy and its impact on tourism development in China. The research will offer valuable insights into the management and marketing of tourism destinations that have gained prominence through online platforms and social media. By examining the evolving dynamics of the internet celebrity economy, the project seeks to provide practical strategies for public governance and the sustainable development of internet celebrity tourism destinations.

Professor Zou’s research continues to position him at the forefront of China's burgeoning tourism industry, providing critical analysis that supports policymakers and tourism stakeholders. The findings will also contribute to theoretical research in the field of tourism worldwide.

In accordance with the order of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 211 dated June 14, 2024, and the Regulations on Postgraduate Education, paragraph 3, subparagraphs 16, 18, and 19, the following individuals are eligible for admission to research traineeships and base doctorate programs:

  • Holders of a master’s degree or those who have completed clinical residency (for medical sciences), or those with a higher education diploma (specialty programs).
  • Those who possess a national or internationally recognized certificate confirming their foreign language proficiency at least at the C1 level for foreign language specialties, B2 level for humanities, biological and related sciences, mathematics and statistics, business and management, law, service sectors, social and behavioral sciences, journalism and information, information and communication technologies, and B1 level for other educational fields, as well as culture and sports specialties.

For admission to the Doctorate program, the following documents are required: (Full-time study)

  • Application;
  • National or international certificate confirming foreign language proficiency;
  • Brief biographical information;
  • Copy of the labor book certified according to the established procedure (for employed candidates);
  • Copy of the diploma of higher education, Candidate of Sciences, or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or an equivalent scientific degree obtained in a foreign country;
  • Scientific report on the research topic and a detailed draft of the dissertation plan for obtaining the degree of Doctor of Sciences (DSc);
  • List of published scientific works and their copies.

For Independent Research, the following documents are required: (Part-time study)

  • Brief biographical information;
  • Copy of the diploma for a master's degree, clinical residency (for medical sciences), or higher education (specialty program) for official registration as an independent researcher for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD);
  • Copy of the labor book certified according to the established procedure;
  • List of scientific works and their copies;
  • Copy of the diploma for the degree of Candidate of Sciences or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), or an equivalent scientific degree obtained in a foreign country, for official registration as an independent researcher for the degree of Doctor of Sciences (DSc);
  • Recommendation letter from the workplace.

Selection for independent researchers is conducted based on an interview in the third month of each quarter and the corresponding conclusion of the admissions committee at the educational institution.

Documents should be prepared in PDF format and submitted from September 15 to October 15, 2024, through the Unified Electronic System for Coordinating Postgraduate Education (https://daraja.ilmiy.uz). Entrance exams will be held from November 1-25, 2024.

Since 2021, many joint projects are being implemented on the basis of the memorandum concluded between “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage and the University of Applied Sciences in Konstanz, Germany. In particular, professors and employees of our university are doing internships every year through the DAAD grand program, developing their scientific work and sharing their knowledge with students of the University of Konstanz.

On September 13, 2024, an Academic networking conference on “Sustainable Tourism Management and World Heritage Sites in Uzbekistan” was organized at the initiative of two universities. As a continuation of this collaboration, this conference brought together scientists, researchers, experts and practitioners from around the world with the common goal of exploring sustainable solutions for the management of our priceless heritage sites.

On 17 September 2024, the chairman of the Women's Council of “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage M. Abbasova, youth leader of the university S. Haydarov, specialist of the department for youth work D. Vastayeva, being in close contact with students and their parents, who entered the 1st year of the university, carefully acquainted with the conditions created for students and female students in the student dormitory in the new academic year.

The work is continuing on familiarising female students who have a desire to live in rented flats and student dormitory with the information.

Today, parents and students who have contacted the centre about student housing and rental accommodation are solving their problems and issues successfully.

This event, held in Minsk, Belarus, is the first forum organized between the countries. It is known that on 20 October 2023, a thematic office was opened in our city in cooperation with UNWTO within the framework of the 25th session of the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organisation. This thematic office, established to implement projects, initiatives and research of the international brand “Silk Road”, has now become a favourite place where researchers and PhD students of our university constantly gather, discuss their scientific works, and inform the general public about the results of scientific research. It is aimed at creating sufficient conditions for researchers and PhD students, organising various seminars on research topics, as well as organising master classes on research topics by attracting influential domestic and foreign scientists in the field of tourism and cultural heritage. Special mention should be made of the initiatives of the staff of the research department of the university.

On 10 September of this year the Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, Rector of the university Aziz Abdukhakimov and the Secretary General of the UN World Tourism Organisation, Honorary Professor of “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage Zurab Pololikashvili, who visited the UNWTO thematic office, got acquainted with the conditions created for researchers, highly appreciated the scientific environment created here, and in the future the Academic Council for the awarding of the degree DSc.33/01.02.2022.I.145.01 has been entrusted to carry out all subsequent studies. In this regard, on 13 September of the current year in the thematic office of the UNWTO, at the Scientific Seminar of the Academic Council, awarding degrees in economic sciences at “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage was held a discussion of the dissertation written for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in economic sciences, Karshiev Adham Anvarovich, in the specialty - 08.00.17 – “Tourism and hotel activity” on the theme “Improvement of the organizational and economic mechanism of strategic development of tourism in the region”. In addition, there was a discussion of the dissertation of another researcher of the university Khashimova Madina Muradkhanovna, speciality - 08.00.17 – “Tourism and hotel activity” on the theme “Ways of effective use of ecotourism potential of regions”, written for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in economic sciences. During the active discussion at the seminar, the results of scientific research conducted by the researchers were highly appreciated by the members of the commission, and their scientific works were recommended for the defence of dissertations for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Economic Sciences.

Also today was held the defence of the dissertation of the researcher of the university Hamdamov Amriddin Hamdam ugli for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in economic sciences on the theme “Improvement of organisational and economic mechanism of effective use of resources of digital integration in the sphere of tourism” on the speciality - 08.00.17 – “Tourism and hotel activity”.

According to the results of the defence of the dissertation, which caused a stormy discussion, Hamdamov Amriddin Hamdam ugli on the theme “Improvement of the organisational and economic mechanism of effective use of digital integration resources in the sphere of tourism” written for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in economic sciences on the speciality - 08.00.17 – “Tourism and hotel activity”, taking into account that his dissertation is devoted to the actual topic, its scientific research is sufficiently substantiated and represents a completed research work, it is recognised that the requirements of the Higher Attestation Commission under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the procedure for awarding the degree of Doctor of Sciences” (PhD) have been fully met, and the researcher was found worthy of the degree (PhD) in economic sciences.

In addition, at this meeting of the Academic Council of the University, Chairman of the Council A. Eshtaev reported that the Higher Attestation Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan on higher education, science and innovation approved the decision of the Academic Council of the university №. 7 from 20 July 2024 to the researcher of the university Tukhtamishov Aziz Kahramonovich Tukhtamishov that awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in economics on speciality 08.00.17 – “Tourism and hotel activity” and solemnly awarded the Diploma of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in economics. Members of the Council also warmly congratulated Tukhtamishov Aziz Kahramanovich with success and wished him great success in further scientific activity.

For information: the degree DSc. 33/01.02.2022.I.145.01, awarding degrees at “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage, was established by our esteemed President's Decree No. PD-5270 of 30 October 2021 “On Measures to Further Improve the Continuous System of Qualified Personnel Training in the Field of Tourism, Cultural Heritage and Museology”, it provides an opportunity for scholars who are now actively engaged in research in the field of tourism and cultural heritage to report on their scientific innovations and achievements in the field of tourism and cultural heritage.

         On 10 September of this year, Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization, visited the International Academy of Tourism in Samarkand. During his visit, Zurab Pololikashvili, accompanied by the Rector of “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage, Aziz Abdukhakimov, closely acquainted with the activities and educational processes of the International Academy of Tourism.

         As information, it is worth mentioning that the International Academy of Tourism was inaugurated in October 2023 within the framework of the 25th anniversary session of the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organisation, which was held in Samarkand. The educational program of the Academy has been developed taking into account the experience of Swiss hospitality schools. Training will be conducted by foreign teachers. Graduates of the Academy will receive a certificate recognised by partner educational institutions. Upon completion of each module, students gain work experience in the field through internships in private partner companies.

- When the academy was opened during our anniversary session of last year, it was still unfinished. Today we see that a completely different atmosphere has been created at the academy. I would like to thank the leadership of Uzbekistan for this. There are not many such institutions in the world, and our Academy in Samarkand undoubtedly stands out among them with its capabilities. Nowadays, African and Latin American countries are also interested in establishing educational institutions that train specialists in tourism. Today I am sure that we can show them Samarkand Academy as an example. Next year we want to hold the second international forum in Samarkand dedicated to tourism training. And this academy will be the main base for this, says Zurab Pololikashivili, Secretary General of the World Tourism Organisation.

         During the event, the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organisation Zurab Pololikashvili was awarded the title of Honorary Professor of “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage.

With the aim of ensuring the effective implementation of dual education based on the training program developed within the framework of the project for the specialty “41010302 – Hotel Management and Administration”, a training session on the topic "Implementation of Dual Education in the Hotel Management Sector" was held on September 9–10, 2024, at the “International” hotel as part of the VET4UZ project.

The training was conducted by experts from the Institute for the Development of Professional Education in collaboration with representatives of the private sector in the hospitality industry for participants from regional administrations, partner institutes, universities, hotels, as well as pilot colleges and technical schools.
Opening speeches were delivered by Utkirjon Alijonov, Head of the Department for the Development of Professional Education of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation, and Simone Strasburger, Head of the Swiss VET4UZ project.

During the training, experts discussed the importance of dual education and its benefits for employers, the organization of dual education in the vocational education system, potential problems and their solutions in the implementation of dual education, as well as the stages of developing a dual education program for the specialty "Hotel Management and Administration" within the project. Additionally, participants completed practical tasks in group work format, which facilitated better assimilation of the material, development of collaboration skills, and exchange of experience for the effective application of theoretical knowledge in practice.
