At the "Silk Road" International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage was held a symposium on sustainable management of Cultural Heritage in Uzbekistan

On November 26, 2021, was held the Uzbek-Korean Symposium on “Sustainable Management of Cultural Heritage in Uzbekistan” at the “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage.

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Agency of Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan, the Administration of Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Korea and the Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation organized this event.

The symposium is dedicated to the completion of the first stage of the project “Increasing the potential and improving the material and technical base of the museum in Uzbekistan”, implemented by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports jointly with the Republic of Korea.

The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan - Rector of the "Silk Road" International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage Aziz Abdukhakimov, Director General of the Heritage Promotion Bureau of the Cultural Heritage Administration of the Republic of Korea and Ken Hoon, program Manager of the Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation Kim Dong Ha and Deputy Director General of the ODA for Cultural Heritage John Bamhwan, heads of museums and galleries of Uzbekistan, as well as leading industry experts.

For information: Within the framework of the first stage of the project on a grant basis in the amount of 700 thousand US dollars:

- A modern Laboratory for the study and restoration of archaeological finds has been created in the State Museum of Cultural History of Uzbekistan;

- Master classes were held for specialists in the field and 95 exhibits were restored;

- A room in the Afrosiyob Museum has been renovated, where wall paintings are displayed;

Also, within the framework of the program, a modern textbook was developed for specialists of Uzbekistan on the restoration and preservation of Museum Exhibits and Archaeological Finds.

During this event, special attention was paid to such topics as:

-Strategic development of museum conservation in Uzbekistan;

-Excavations and scientific analysis of Afrosiyob wall paintings;

-Restoration and management of Cultural Heritage objects in the territory of the Samarkand region;

- Cooperation between Korea and Uzbekistan for the sustainable preservation of Cultural Heritage.

Within the framework of the symposium, took place the presentation of the exhibition “Restoration and reconstruction of museum exhibits and archaeological finds”, developed jointly with Korean specialists.

Currently, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports is finalizing the issue of allocating additional technical assistance (about 255 thousand US dollars) for the supply of special equipment for X-ray composition and analysis of archaeological finds to the laboratory of the Samarkand State Museum-Reserve, as well as the preparation of the II stage of the main project for 2022-2026 (3.8 million US dollars).
