On 12 May, in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation and the Family and Women’s Affairs Committee of Samarkand province, a women’s festival entitled “Woman of the 21st century” was held under the motto “Woman of science - mirror of society”. The event was attended by advisers to the Rector on women’s issues of the Republic of Uzbekistan, women from Samarkand region’s higher education institutions, including women scientists from the International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage “Iraqi Way”.
At the festival, the Chair of the Senate of the Republic of Uzbekistan, T.K.Norbaeva, delivered her views and appeals to the festival participants online through a video message. The speakers detailed the reforms carried out in our country during the Third Renaissance, the opportunities created for women, the issues of increasing women’s activism in society and in the development of science, the expression of attitudes towards women in hadiths, the causes of harassment and violence against women and the mechanisms for preventing them.
The festival also included a national costume podium, a concert programme and a cycling sports competition among the participants.
10-12 May 2023, “Silk Road” International Tourism and Cultural Heritage University hosted the first international conference on the topic “History, cultural heritage and tourism opportunities of the Silk Road peoples (past and present)”.
First Vice Rector of “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage J.Eltazarov opened the conference with an introductory speech. The conference featured presentations by scientists from leading national and foreign countries in the field of tourism. The aim of the conference was to share global achievements, academic knowledge and experience. The conference focuses on the global importance and history of the Silk Road, its continuity and role in sustaining regional social, economic and political interactions, sustainable tourism and cultural heritage.
More than 20 academic presentations and video clips were screened at this prestigious conference. The outcome document of the conference suggested that this international forum should become an annual event, with the proceedings published in a separate collection.
Within the project of German Cooperation (GIZ) “Promoting economic reforms and sustainable economic development in the regions of Uzbekistan”, on 13 May 2023 First Vice-Rector of “Silk Road” International Tourism and Cultural Heritage University J.Eltazorov and his team in Khiva participated in the opening ceremony of training laboratories on “Organization and management of hospitality business” at Khiva Tourism and Cultural Heritage Technical College. The event was attended by Ms. Beate Schoreit, Head of the project, a delegation from the German Tourist Association, Khorezm region Tourism and Cultural Heritage Authority, private sector representatives working in the field of tourism, college lecturers and master trainers. The event was reported on central television in Khorezm region.
On 12 May 2023, First vice-rector of “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage J.Eltazarov, Head of Tourism Management Department A.Odilov, leading specialist of Department of Work and Professional Education J.Хolboev visited Khiva Technical College of Tourism and Cultural Heritage in accordance with the order №44 of the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Activities and Innovation of 6 March 2023 to provide training, research and spiritual-educational support and met with pedagogical and educational staff of the college.
A.Odilov organized a master class. The current problems were also studied and a “roadmap” for providing methodological and scientific assistance to the technical college was developed.
The UNESCO organization announced the 3rd international competition called “Silk Road Youth Research Grant - Strengthening the potential and contribution of young researchers through the Silk Road initiative” within the framework of the Silk Road program. This competition is financed by the National Commission for UNESCO Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.
The main goal of this competition is to mobilize young researchers to study the common heritage of the Silk Road, and it will award 12 grants to women and men aged 35 and under.
Candidates can apply for courses related to the shared heritage and identity developed through centuries of interaction along the Silk Road. Also, their research should be relevant and consistent with UNESCO’s mandate for creativity, communication, social cohesion, international and regional cooperation, sustainable peace and development, which is inherent in this heritage.

The Embassy of Uzbekistan in Kuala Lumpur held talks with the Minister of Higher Education of Malaysia Mohamed Khalid Nordin. During the meeting, it was announced that grants will be allocated under the “Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS) 2023” program to citizens of Uzbekistan for master’s and doctoral studies in the 2023-2024 academic year.
The MIS 2023 program provides a tuition fee (paid directly to the university by the Malaysian government) and a stipend (a monthly approximately $350 USD) included. Applications will be accepted until May 18, 2023.

On 8 May 2023, the delegation headed by Amir Muqam Khan, who is political and public affairs advisor to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, visited “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage. The purpose of the visit was to get to better acquainted with the university and to establish further productive friendships.
It is worth noting that the university campus hospitably welcomed the guests and invited them to visit our university in the future through a cultural exchange programme for university students.
On 5 May this year, the opening and rebranding ceremony of the Indonesian hub was held at “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage. There were representatives from more than 8 Indonesian universities, with a total of 60 people attending this ceremony.
The Indonesian Hub is an institution designed to provide a wide range of information on cooperation and interaction activities in various fields, as well as other activities in which both sides are involved. These activities are expected to be beneficial for both countries, Indonesia and Uzbekistan. This platform will serve for cooperation, improved relations as well as academic cooperation between Indonesia and Uzbekistan.
Gunadarma University has provided a start-up grant of $5,000 to Silk Road International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage to establish the Indonesian centre in order to improve its facilities.
The guests of honour were welcomed by the Vice-rector of Innovation and Commerce, Professor Tony Zou. Prof. Tony Zou mentioned in his speech that global academic partnerships are very important for improving education. Thus universities should expand partnerships with different universities in different regions of the world. A close partnership in both teaching and research also helps the university to gain international recognition.
Dr Pastianti Nourvardani, head of the Ministry of Education delegation, said that languages as part of culture, with their complex implications for identity, communication, social inclusion, education and development, are of strategic importance for people and the planet. There is growing awareness that languages play a vital role in development, not only in ensuring cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue, but also in ensuring quality education for all, strengthening cooperation, building inclusive knowledge societies and preserving cultural heritage.
As part of the ceremony, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage and Indonesian universities, in particular Krisnadwipayana University, Universitas Dian Nusantara, Lspr Institute Of Communication & Business, Indonesia, Universitas Esa Unggul, Indonesia, Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta, Bhayangkara Jakarta Raya University, Indonesia.
It is worth noting that the opening of this hub was organised on the initiative of Indonesia’s Gunadarma University at our international university, whose rector is the Indonesian Ambassador for Tourism to the Republic of Uzbekistan.

As part of the visit of a delegation of Samarkand region to the Republic of Korea, a series of meetings were organised on the establishment of cooperation between major institutions of higher education and “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage to train qualified personnel in the field of tourism.
It was agreed to cooperate with hotels, travel agencies and restaurants on attracting Korean professors to “Silk Road” International Tourism and Cultural Heritage University, providing grants on Korean requirements, establishing student exchanges, ensuring that students test their knowledge in practice during the summer holidays.
In particular, discussions were held with the head of Dongguk University in Gyeongju and Ji In Lee, consultant to the Asia-Pacific Secretariat at the World Heritage Organization, on the organisation of cultural heritage exchanges.
The potential of the university was also widely promoted at the National stand of Uzbekistan at the international tourism exhibition SITF-2023 in Seoul. Negotiations were held with invited foreign specialists to participate in the international exhibition in order to organize work in cooperation.
As part of the promotional campaign “Samarkand - the tourist gates of New Uzbekistan” established at the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the Republic of Korea for representatives of the tourism sector, higher education institutions and the media, a presentation was made on the university, the opportunities created by foreign students and attracting Korean students to the university.
