Opening of the Indonesian hub

On 5 May this year, the opening and rebranding ceremony of the Indonesian hub was held at “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage. There were representatives from more than 8 Indonesian universities, with a total of 60 people attending this ceremony.

              The Indonesian Hub is an institution designed to provide a wide range of information on cooperation and interaction activities in various fields, as well as other activities in which both sides are involved. These activities are expected to be beneficial for both countries, Indonesia and Uzbekistan. This platform will serve for cooperation, improved relations as well as academic cooperation between Indonesia and Uzbekistan.

              Gunadarma University has provided a start-up grant of $5,000 to Silk Road International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage to establish the Indonesian centre in order to improve its facilities.

              The guests of honour were welcomed by the Vice-rector of Innovation and Commerce, Professor Tony Zou. Prof. Tony Zou mentioned in his speech that global academic partnerships are very important for improving education. Thus universities should expand partnerships with different universities in different regions of the world. A close partnership in both teaching and research also helps the university to gain international recognition.

              Dr Pastianti Nourvardani, head of the Ministry of Education delegation, said that languages as part of culture, with their complex implications for identity, communication, social inclusion, education and development, are of strategic importance for people and the planet. There is growing awareness that languages play a vital role in development, not only in ensuring cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue, but also in ensuring quality education for all, strengthening cooperation, building inclusive knowledge societies and preserving cultural heritage.

As part of the ceremony, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage and Indonesian universities, in particular Krisnadwipayana University, Universitas Dian Nusantara, Lspr Institute Of Communication & Business, Indonesia, Universitas Esa Unggul, Indonesia, Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta, Bhayangkara Jakarta Raya University, Indonesia.

              It is worth noting that the opening of this hub was organised on the initiative of Indonesia’s Gunadarma University at our international university, whose rector is the Indonesian Ambassador for Tourism to the Republic of Uzbekistan.

As part of the visit of a delegation of Samarkand region to the Republic of Korea, a series of meetings were organised on the establishment of cooperation between major institutions of higher education and “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage to train qualified personnel in the field of tourism.

It was agreed to cooperate with hotels, travel agencies and restaurants on attracting Korean professors to “Silk Road” International Tourism and Cultural Heritage University, providing grants on Korean requirements, establishing student exchanges, ensuring that students test their knowledge in practice during the summer holidays.

       In particular, discussions were held with the head of Dongguk University in Gyeongju and Ji In Lee, consultant to the Asia-Pacific Secretariat at the World Heritage Organization, on the organisation of cultural heritage exchanges.

The potential of the university was also widely promoted at the National stand of Uzbekistan at the international tourism exhibition SITF-2023 in Seoul. Negotiations were held with invited foreign specialists to participate in the international exhibition in order to organize work in cooperation.

As part of the promotional campaign “Samarkand - the tourist gates of New Uzbekistan” established at the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the Republic of Korea for representatives of the tourism sector, higher education institutions and the media, a presentation was made on the university, the opportunities created by foreign students and attracting Korean students to the university.

Furthermore, “Silk Road Beauty Competition” is planned to be held at two locations in Samarkand and China. It should be noted that the “One Belt and One Road” project is planned to be implemented in September of this year.

Students of the 1st year of “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage visited Samarkand Regional Information and Library Centre named after A.S.Pushkin. Students took an active part in a round-table discussion on the theme “A book-loving nation”, demonstrating their love of reading books. The 1st year student, Uskanbaeva Maftuna, read poems from her own works and shared her special mood with the participants.

As it is well known, today in our country great attention is given to the development of the unbiased donor movement, attracting the general public to donate free of charge and providing patients with safe blood components. In this regard, on May 4, 2023, for the students of “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage “Goodness Will Return” or be an impartial donor! - was held under this slogan to promote the selfless blood donation movement among young people in our country. During the event Jabborova Aziza Mansurovna, Head of Samarkand Blood Donor Center, Kasimova Zarina Sobirovna, Head of Biological Control Department provided information on why it is necessary for our youth to donate blood, the process of blood donation, blood donation procedures and impartial donors.

“Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage encourages all faculty, staff and students to actively participate in charity events such as “Charity”, which is held to promote the donor movement and become an impartial donor and support patients in need.

Echoing the Asian Initiative for Cultural Heritage Conservation, the China Foundation for Cultural Heritage Protection entrusted the Chair on Sustainable Tourism of UNESCO List Sites to undertake the “Asian Cultural Heritage Education Cooperation Network” project, and organized the 1st Asian Cultural Heritage Conservation & Utilization Proposal Competition.

Saiyod Qodirzoda, Qiu Ziyi, Miao Hui, Chang Dongfang, Qiu Rui from “Silk Road” University and Beijing International studies university formed a team “TCU” to participate in this competition.

Under the guidance of Professor Zou Tongqian (Tony) and Professor Patterson, the team successfully passed the preliminary competition, and the final presentation was held at Sun Yat-sen University Zhuhai Campus on April 23, 2023, and the team’s work “TCU ACTION” was rated as “Critical Insight Proposal”.

Taking Khiva in Uzbekistan as a case study, the team proposed the TCU Action after field research, which is guided by the theory of integrity protection and integrated utilization, and consists of the TCU network and the TCU system, which aims to comprehensively realize the sustainable protection and utilization of cultural heritage through the three major means of technology, creation and union, and comprehensively play the monitoring, management, operation and supervision functions of the government, tourists, businesses and other stakeholders.

The competition attracted more than 5,000 youth delegates from more than 10 countries, including China, the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Japan and South Korea. And hope to disseminate the concept of sustainable development of cultural heritage through cultural heritage education cooperation between Asian countries and regions, strengthen cultural exchanges and mutual learning between Asian countries and regions, and promote the sustainable development of Asian cultural heritage.

Several lecturers from the Tourism Management faculty: Mironshokh Uktamov, Farukh Shukurov, Mekhruza Vafokulova (Tourism Management Department) and Gulrukh Yusupova (Languages Department) attended the two day UniCEN Research Methodology Workshop hosted by American Councils on May 1-2, 2023, in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.  The main objectives of the workshop were to enhance the research capacity of Central Asian faculty members, increase the number of joint U.S.-Central Asian publications submitted to international journals, and promote interdisciplinary and regional cooperation across Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan.

The experts of the workshop Professor Khanjan Mehta, Vice Provost for Creative Inquiry and Director of the Mountaintop Initiative at Lehigh University, Dr Jay Turner, Head of the Division of Engineering Education, Washington University in St. Louis and Dr. Hamid Reza Shahbazkia, Associate Professor, School of Law, Technology and Education Westminster International University in Tashkent, conducted interactive trainings on research methodology.

Representatives from American Councils also shared practical tips on how to begin outreach and continue communication with U.S. university representatives and provided templates to ensure effective communication with U.S. colleagues.

Since ancient times, people have used words and speech. As society evolved, so did speech, culture and oratory. Today, as our nation, especially the outlook of our youth, changes, the role of oratory becomes very significant in preventing corruption crimes, in correcting those who fall into criminal groups. The art of public speaking is extremely relevant for all representatives of the system working directly with the people, as well as for tourism workers and students.

A lot of positive work has been done by the Youth and Neighbourhood Work and Activities department. In particular, the strongest among the students studying at the university were sorted out and a “Content stage” group was formed. A public speaking competition was held among the students in this group on 4 May, the day before.

The aim of organising such competitions is to develop a culture of communication and address among university students, encourage book reading, book lovers, expand the ranks of active students, improve the speech skills and public speaking skills of each student, provide civility in dealing with citizens, tourists, make logical observations and form a new way of thinking.

During the organised event, the students' skills were tested by an experienced speaker-teacher, the staff, giving the necessary insight and guidance on the matter. competitive competitions such as these will undoubtedly be a special approach to shaping a new image of students.

All in all, news, ideas and opinions about tourism and education abound among university students. Everyone is willing to work day and night to bring these ideas to life and development.

The world-famous opera singer Placido Domingo and his wife, soprano singer and director Marta Domingo, visited “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage. The purpose of the visit was to familiarise the university with the scientific and pedagogical activities, forms and types of education, as well as the interior of the university.

During his trip to Uzbekistan, Placido Domingo personally met with Rector of “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage A.Abdukhakimov in Tashkent.

On Facebook page of our Rector A.Abdukhakimov, the great maestro posted a letter of appreciation for a wonderful trip to Samarkand and for his hospitality.
